Baking advice, columns on baking, cookbook reviews, a Kids’ Menu Hall of Fame, recipes, and a bit of baking to buy: that’s Dessert First. Sharon Kebschull Barrett started Dessert First, a baking catering company, in the mid-1990s in Chapel Hill, N.C., closing it in 2001 to raise her children, then re-opening it as a custom bakehouse. She now does custom baking from time to time, works as a freelance food writer (recent publications include stories in Hobby Farm Home and some of its special editions), and as a copy editor. Her two cookbooks, Desserts From an Herb Garden and Morning Glories, were published by St. Martin’s Press.
